I had no idea this show was on the archive. This is one of the only times Umphrey's has played on my birthday, and I wasn't there cuz I didn't know they existed at the time...but, this is one of the best setlists of any show in my UM collection. IMHO the best versions of Divisions and 2x2 available...and the energy on Front Porch is rediculous. Don't know about the recording quality, I got mine from UMLive.

Great show. Jake wails throughout.

Just one note, near the end of 2x2, Jake teases an old smooth jazz tune by Chuck Mangione, "Feels So Good." Don't know if anyone else picked up on it.

lot of heavy hitters for the Chicago show, lot of old school tunes. only 4 stars cause you should grab the matrix source of this show instead of the audience (this one). your ears and CD/digital music collection will thank you.

First off im not the biggest Umphries fan, but living in Chicago has brought me to them time and time again. I was at this show and if it wasnt for pure curiosity, and the number of reviews, i would have never thought of checking out. IMHO, it was a horrible crowd that night; never saw so many drunk little girls being carried out at a show, and the vibe i got was absolutely horrible, people were looking to pick fights. However, the recording quality of this show is decent enough for me to realize that the show was actually a pretty good one, i just wish i could have enjoyed it as much while i was there. Ide have to say that if i wasnt surrounded by a bunch of 16 yr olds and frat boys trying to get with them i could have actually shook my bones and had some fun.

bumping it up to 28 reviews for this show, but deservedly so. I've converted no less than 4 friends to UM fans purely via this show, so if you have trouble getting tickets the next time they hit New England, feel free to point the finger my way.

(Front Porch is amazing, but going into Front Porch is....)

Subject: High energy & good sound
Lot's of energy in this performance both from the band and the audience. The sound quality is very good too. Fool in the Rain is the highlight for me. The place literally explodes when they start playing the opening chords.

Also, the tease listed in the notes is Tennessee Jed and not Love Each Other.

Man oh man this is a GRRRRRRREAT show!
Second set is where it is at, closing with a mind bending Front Porch that will squeeze every last ounce of your soul through a portal leading to Sponge Bob Square Pants and his under-sea friends. Not for the timid...
Der Bluten Kat is rock as rock should be~IN YO FACE!!!!!
Believe it or not 8^)

This was my ninth show, and by far the best. Solid set list, and they were completely tight the whole evening. Although Believe the Lie is not a standard (yet)it is really growing on me. Download definately worth your time...
ps. This is the first 5 star rating i have given..

download this show. second best umphreys show ive gone to next to new years. the band was definitely on top of their game tonight and they seemed to flow as one the entire night. havnt listened to this show since i bought it there but definitely download it. front porch? are you kidding me? first wabash since 02. nobody expected divisions after new years but once again they always pull out new tricks. get this show, they all come together at this show and aren't playing as individuals.

Hey I love Umphrey's after this last month of listening to them. I've gotten a bunch of shows, this one is incredible. I was with a girl here in Boston on the same night as this show, she wished she was home in IL to go to this one, and I wish I was in IL there too! Damn I really can't wait for Bonnaroo, but PLEASE don't be saying stuff like "breaking up" that is just too awful to think about.

Subject: A giant Umph for Mankind..
Man, I love this band. After discovering Archive.org I started checking a few bands I had not yet heard about down here in Oz. With this band, it was their name that first got my curiosity. Song titles looked interesting and their cover of The Allman Bros wonderful, Jessica from the Bendix Theater set (May 20th, 2002) actually inspired me to go buy a copy of the original to relive the memory of how good that album, Brothers and Sisters really was. This is now my 5th Umphreys concert download and definitely not my last. Apart from being able to perform the odd cover like Totos Africa with obvious skill and tongue firmly in cheek, the bands original material is also exceptional stuff. All In Time is a real favourite but by no means the only one! An earlier reviewer named Kellogg pondered just what it was about this band that made him/her like them. It sounds like Kellogg may only be in doubt about his/her own excellent judgement? From a self-confessed Umphreak in another country, I think it has a bit to do with knowing you were on to them first. That is, before they get all the global attention you figured they obviously deserved. When that does happen and the rest of the world finally catches on (as you really hope it will) its as if youve somehow lost them. Its like theyre not your band anymore. Just draw some comfort from your good taste NOW, Kellogg. But if you still need validation, here it is. These cats are most certainly the real thing! Ysee, I may not be the only person in Australia who likes their chops but Im happy to believe I found them before any of my fellow countrymen! Keep the concerts coming. The sharing on this website is true democracy in action - and I, for one, am truly grateful. Umph on out!

Subject: really great show, good sound quality - too much crowd noise
The quality of this performance is excellent, creative jamming, dead on precision, in your face confrontational rock music, this is what live Umphreys is about. The sound quality could be better. The instruments sound good, but for some reason the recording seems to lack true depth. The real problem is there is just way too much crowd noise. If it were just applause it would be no big deal, unfortunately it is mostly just chatter and it really destroys any soft or silent points in the music. For these reasons I cannot give it a 5.

I'll give it four stars because I want to keep this shows rating up because I'm sure all you umph fans out there would like that, but I also just want to take the time to question something... What is it that makes umph so appealing. I get it kind of... I mean they bring it hard, but I at the same time don't get it... It just doesn't do it for me. But maybe if one of you kind fans would take the time to explain them to me and why you like them so much without getting nasty maybe then i could appreciate more..

Very good performance and an excellent audience recording. Vocals are loud and clear, the instruments are well defined. Plenty of new and old material with lots of killer improv, I'd recommend this show to anyone.

My 20th show and the best one yet! Great one-two punch to start the show w/ BTL and AIT. Great "JS"
out of Sociable Jimmmy that goes beautifully into Fussy. PTP had a really nice Syncopated jam in it. Second set was smoking with great versions of Roulette, 2x2 and Front Porch. Better than either of the 12/04 Riv shows...Download this show NOW!

This was one of the great concerts I've been to in a while. The band played 2 sets for 3.5 hours of rocking tunes. Fool in the Rain was perfect. The crowd was excellent. The tuba playing audience member made the evening a lasting memory. Highly recommend everyone downloads this concert.
